Family Faith Formation
Family Ministry Programming at King of Kings
At King of Kings Lutheran Church, we believe faith grows through the everyday moments we share—worshiping together, asking questions, learning from one another, serving our neighbors, and building relationships along the way. Our Family Ministry offers opportunities for every member of the family to grow in faith and feel connected to our church community. Whether you have little ones, elementary-aged children, teenagers, or children of different ages, there is a place for your family here! We know every family’s faith journey looks a little different, and we want to support you wherever you are along the way.
Faith Explorers - Children Ages 0-5
Every faith journey begins somewhere, and we love welcoming our littlest church members to worship! We want families with young children to feel comfortable as they begin their faith journey. Whether your child is coloring, dancing to the music, or exploring the world around them, there is room for them here.
Families with young children are welcome to worship together in the sanctuary or visit our Nursery whenever they need a little extra space.
-
Located in the back left corner of the sanctuary, our Pray Ground offers quiet activities for children whose families would like to remain in the sanctuary during the worship service. It provides a space for little ones to play and explore while still being part of the worship experience.
-
Our Nursery is a comfortable space where families can take a break and let their little ones explore a space designed for them! The room is filled with toys and includes a TV where the worship service is livestreamed, allowing families to continue participating in worship from another space.
An individual bathroom with a changing table is also available in the Nursery.
Families are welcome to use the Nursery before, during, and after Sunday worship services. Please note that the Nursery is a family-use space and does not provide childcare. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children.
We know that worship with young children doesn't always go as planned, and that's okay! Feel free to come and go as your family needs. You are always welcome here!
Faith Builders - Elementary Children from Kindergarten through 5th Grade
Children have so many wonderful questions about God, faith, and the world around them. Faith Builders gives elementary-aged children a place to explore those questions, learn Bible stories, build friendships, and discover what it means to live out their faith.
On Sunday mornings, children begin worship with their families in the sanctuary and are invited to come forward for the Pastor’s Children’s Message. After the message, children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to the Faith Builders Room (Room 8) for age-appropriate activities and faith formation. They return to the sanctuary before the offering.
At least two background-checked volunteers supervise children during Faith Builders programming.
-
Elementary-aged children are also welcome to use the Pray Ground in the sanctuary during worship, whether they are participating in Faith Builders that morning or staying with their families for the service. The Pray Ground offers quiet activities that help children engage with worship in a way that works for them.
-
Located across the hall from the Faith Builders Room, the Construction Zone is a space for children ages five and older to build, play, and have fun. Families are welcome to use the room before, during, and after worship services.
With LEGOs, board games, foosball, and more, the Construction Zone offers a fun place for children to enjoy while parents connect with others or prepare for worship.
The Construction Zone is a family-use space, not a supervised childcare program. Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children.
Faith Forward - 6th - 12th Grade Youth
Faith is more than something we believe—it's something we live! Faith Forward encourages middle and high school students to grow in their relationship with God, build friendships, ask meaningful questions, and put their faith into action.
-
Every other week, youth are invited to gather in the Youth Room (Room 3) following Sunday worship for Donuts & Discussion. This relaxed, welcoming gathering gives students a chance to enjoy a snack, reflect on the worship service and sermon, and participate in a guided discussion with background-checked volunteers.
Donuts & Discussion lasts approximately 30 minutes. While youth connect, parents are invited to enjoy a cup of coffee and fellowship with other parents, and younger siblings can play in the Construction Zone.
-
Once a month, Faith Forward gathers for a Youth Night filled with fun, fellowship, and opportunities to grow together. Some evenings include service projects that allow students to put their faith into action and serve others.
Friends are always welcome! You don't need to be a member of King of Kings to join the fun!
-
We encourage middle and high school students to remain part of the worship service and to find ways to share their gifts with the congregation. From helping during worship to participating in church service projects, there are many opportunities for youth to take an active role in the life of our church.
Youth may worship in the sanctuary or remain with their parents in another space as needed.
Faith Formation for Parents
Parenting is a meaningful opportunity to share God’s love, nurture faith, and grow together as a family. At King of Kings, we recognize that parents play an important role in their children’s faith formation. That’s why we believe supporting parents is just as important as providing faith formation opportunities for children.
Throughout the year, we offer quarterly Mom’s Nights and Dad’s Nights, providing opportunities for parents to connect, build friendships, and enjoy time together.
Beginning this winter, we will also offer a Bible study for parents with children still living at home. Led by fellow church members who have experienced the joys and challenges of raising children, this study will provide a welcoming space to explore faith, share experiences, ask questions, and encourage one another along the parenting journey.
Faith formation isn't just for kids. We're all growing, learning, and figuring it out together!
Faith Formation for the Whole Family
Some of the best moments in our faith journeys happen when we come together. Whether we're sharing a meal, celebrating a holiday, or working side by side to help our neighbors, these experiences help us build relationships and put God's love into action.
Throughout the year, King of Kings hosts events for the whole family, including our annual chili cookoff, Christmas celebrations, and our annual God's Work. Our Hands. day of service.
These gatherings are a chance to have fun, get to know other families, make memories, and show our children what it looks like to love and serve others.
-
Once a month, families are invited to gather around the table to share a meal and enjoy time together. These gatherings provide a relaxed opportunity to meet other families, catch up with friends, and build connections across generations within our church community. Our families take turns hosting the monthly meals.
Whether you've been at King of Kings for years or are just getting to know us, there's always room for one more at the table!
